Mental Health and Learning

Mental health is an extremely important component of learning. When you are mentally free to be able to do something productive like learning - you can then focus your energies into the task. Given the current situation of Covid19 in India, we do understand that there are trying times that can distract you. Here’s how you can get yourself prepared for the best kind of learning.

  1. Work on your daily tasks - Keep your mind engaged by working on daily tasks. Schedule your day to ensure that you do the best in the productive hours. Give yourself tasks to do beforehand and set yourself to complete them.

  2. Establish a routine of different subjects - Routine induced learning should also inculcate variety. That way the mind isn’t influenced by boredom.

  3. Do something new everyday - Get yourself a hobby to cultivate. It could be related to reading, writing, gardening or creating something. It could be anything but it should be of interest to you. Hobbies not only develop our other skills, they give space for creative nurturing and also mental calmness.

  4. Practice Peace Out - Depending on what gives you peace, practice it. Some people do yoga, meditation, dance or exercise. Some people walk in the garden. Do this whenever you feel overwhelmed, distraught or stressed up.

  5. Positive Strokes - Give and take positive strokes. This can be done in the family itself. If not, have a buddy time with any friend or peer online who can keep you positively motivated. Discuss nice and positive things to do or work on. This helps distract from negative thoughts that can hamper learning.

  6. Read - Read something about whatever you are learning and also something that isn’t related to studies. Reading helps gain perspective as well as foster imagination. It can get you into a zone that helps cope with the disturbances of negative distractors.

  7. Write - If you like to write, this is one of the great way to bust stress. You can indulge in academic writing ie. essays, projects, notes, etc or write something different like poems, short stories or even a novel! This can help you gain skills as a writer too.

  8. Plan your day everyday - We all have lost focus on planning since the Covid19 situation. However, establishing some kind of routine helps one to feel normal and cope. This translates into time for learning, relaxation and other activities and leads to productive day.

We hope all these points enable you to become positively oriented towards learning. By learning we do not restrict ourselves only to the academic one but also any kind of learning that is skill based and helpful in life. Go ahead and try it out!
