Climbing into the world of Commerce

When you talk about money you have to talk about trade and successful trading isn’t possible without systematically applied commerce.

Commerce is a branch of business. According to James Stephenson, Commerce is an organized system for the exchange of goods between the members of the industrial world. It includes all activities that are involved in the exchange of goods and services considered to the money. It is the crucial backbone forming the market and the economy of the company & ultimately the nation.

Commerce as a stream helps in gaining in-depth knowledge of Business, Accounts, Finance and Economics. Commerce is essentially the learning of the various activities that transpire in the diverse world of business such as sale and purchase of goods and services from the producer to a buyer. It is designed to develop the business acumen, financial literacy and analytical skills. If you have a penchant for the understanding of the economy and the commerce scenario, this is where you are bound to be successful. India has noted a marked rise in interest among students towards commerce since the Startups / Entrepreneurship boost provided by the Government. Several top students are opting for commerce stream and aspiring to be  chartered accountants, investment bankers or professionals in the Insurance field, stock market etc. Here are a few career options for commerce: Chartered Accountant, Company secretary, Financial Analyst, Finance Planner, Investment Analyst, Portfolio Manager, among others.

Aspiring candidates can pursue the Commerce course at the undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), diploma levels as well as at the doctoral level. UG level Commerce courses offered include B.Com, BBA, CA, CS, BBA LLB, BBM, etc. At the PG level, popular Commerce programs are M. Com, MBA, M.Phil. Generally, UG courses in Commerce are of three years duration whereas PG programmes are of two years duration.

Students can consider selecting from specialized fields such as accounting and finance, banking and finance, accounting and taxation, actuarial science, business administration, applied economics, e-commerce, financial accounting, banking and insurance, human resources, entrepreneurship, accounting and auditing, etc.
