Reflect on your time as a student

While alumni meets are fun and help in connecting with each other they are essential to every person. Essential? Though some people skip it for not wanting to mix up or probably really being busy or not being in town, again we want to emphasize that – alumni meets are essential. Why alumni meets are essential? So that you can not only reminiscent about your days as a student but there are other hidden purposes which we tend to forget. Let’s look into them.

  1. Learning: When we enter the world of work we think of the routines and client meetings. We sometimes might get sucked into the vortex of working for long hours and many a times not thinking straight. We get into an auto-mode way of working and then forget one essential part of life ie. Learning. But who has time to learn? If you think that once you are steady in your job you don’t need to learn anything, you’re mighty mistaken. Even if you are steadily rising and working you are constantly learning something new. The only problem is that you aren’t conscious of this. Why become conscious of learning? That’s when we can reflect on and realise where we make mistakes and how we can do it better. Why limit learning only to school or college or the first year of job? Why not be a learner and achiever faster and better success? Got the point?
  1. Networking: Alumni meets are great ways to network with your peers and friends whom you might or might not be in touch. You might not even realise that someone is already working in the field of your choice or maybe someone has a better opportunity for you to grab. Alumni meets are increasingly seen as hub for networking and that too in informal ways so the comfort level and being in familiar environment ie. school/ college helps a lot. Icebreaking is easier and better ways to connect are already established. And if you still aren’t in a mood to go around, you can always have great food for company!
  1. Reflecting: Alumni meet and the days leading to it not only open you up for memories but also lead to greater vividness of the school/college life. This adds to the current situation and maybe even helps in remembering something to learn from. It can also help you reflect on your past methods and probably help you decide on your present matters. Reflecting on the ways you tackled situations in past can help a lot. Reflecting on your personal traits then too can get you into a clarity of how to handle situations in the present.

So though these 3 ways are important points of how we can say that alumni meets are essential, we also would love to hear from you if you can think of more ways by which you personally feel that the alumni meets are helpful. Any comments?
